open
- Lingo's open
command will start an external application from Director. It is NOT used
to open Director movies or QuickTime videos, sound files or PICTs through
Director. To open an external document with an external application, use
the open...with
command instead.
Example
open "c:\windows\notepad.exe"
open "c:\mystuff\readme.txt" with "c:\windows\notepad.exe"
The open
command has a number of deficiencies
that are addressed by Zeus products, such as zLaunch,
zScript and zOpen.
Specifically open
will NOT
NOTE for Windows 95 users:
There is a bug in the 32-bit version of DfW's
implementation of the open
command,
which causes "Protection violation" or "File in use"
errors (error -49 or -51) under Windows 95. The error does not occur with
the 16-bit version of Director. You can solve it by making your externl
DIR, DXR
or CST files "Read-Only".
