K - 1. the eleventh letter of the alphabet. 2. a
prefix meaning 1024 as in kilobytes. 3. 1024 bytes,
as in "640K of RAM". Also KB.
3. a prefix meaning 1000, as in kilohertz. See
kilo. 4. degrees Kelvin. See C.
K&R - the common name for the book, The
C Programming Language, written by Brian
Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie. The
answers to the exercises in K&R are provided in The
C Answer Book.
Kanji - the Japanese
alphabet. The Japanese version of Director
supports Kanji.
KagiWare
- a shareware distributor.
KB - 1024 bytes, a common
unit of measure for RAM or a file's size. See KiloByte,
K, MB.
Kernighan, Brian - co-author of the
C programming language along with Dennis
Ritchie. Famous for their programming book on C commonly referred to
as K&R.
keyword - 1. a reserved word in a programming
language which indicates a special command or operation. 2. a word used
to access a particular section of AOL. The Macromedia
forum on AOL is available at keyword "Macromedia". See GO.
kHz - see kilohertz,
Hertz, MHz. Sounds are
typically sampled at 11.025 kHz, 22.050 kHz,
or 44.1 kHz. Refer to the Tech Note,
"Sound Sampling Rates in Director".
kilo - 1. a prefix meaning 1000, as in kilohertz.
See K, mega. 2. a prefix meaning
1024 as in kilobytes. 3. one kilogram,
especially of an illegal drug, as in "They found a kilo of marijuana".
kilobyte - 1024 bytes,
abbreviated as K or KB. Note, this is
not exactly one thousand (1000). See kilo.
kilogram - 1000 grams, or approximately 2.2
lbs., abbreviated kg or kilo.
kilohertz - one thousand (1000) Hertz,
abbreviated kHz. See kilo, MHz,

kilometer - one thousand (1000) meters, abbreviated
km.
kg - see KiloGram.
km - see KiloMeter.
