Q. When I open an external application the palette conflicts with Director's
custom palette. What do I do?
A. The standard Macintosh and Windows System palettes have a range of
colors, and are designed for "generic" use. Numerous applications
use a custom palette to optimize their artwork's appearance in 8-bit (256
color) mode. If your Director projector and the external application use
different palettes, which is common, you have several options:
- Use the same palette, such as the Macintosh or Windows System palette,
for both applications. This is easiest, but may not provide adequate results,
or may not be possible if you cannot modify the external application.
- Use deBabelizer to create
an optimal 8-bit palette that will work well with both applications.
- Use zLaunch which may help eliminate
the palette conflict by allowing you to quit your Projector before starting
your external application.
- As a last resort, you may work in a higher color depth such as 16-bit
(thousands of colors) where you do not need to worry about palettes at
all.
