machineType Codes

Following is a list of codes returned by the Lingo property, the machineType. Note that this is not particulary reliable.

• Some Macintosh type codes are now greater than 256, and not less than 256 as they all once were. Older Lingo code which checks if the machineType is less than 256 will mistakenly think newer Macs are Windows PCs
  
  
• There may be a Macintosh model which returns a code of 256. Therefore, that code can not be assumed to indicate a Windows PC. Use Lingo's the platform property to determine whether you are running under Macintosh or Windows.
  
  
• Multiple machines may report the same type code
  
  
• Some machines may not report any type at all.
  
  
• The reported type may be wrong or misleading if the user has upgraded processors, or installed a PowerPC board. Zeus productions sells an Xtra which will determine if a PowerPC processor is installed.
  
  
• It is unclear what codes are returned by Mac clones, such as those from PowerComputing, UMAX, Radius, etc. and whether they conflict with Apple's codes.
  
  
• The list below is incomplete and is constantly being added to as Apple and clone manufacturers ship additional CPUs.
